St Mike’s Website and Accessibility

Accessibility

The University of St Michael’s College website has been designed and built to be accessible to as wide an audience as possible.

All pages comply with WAI Guidelines of the W3 Web Content Accessibility Guidelines and the U.S. Federal Government Section 508 Guidelines | All* pages validate as HTML5 ». *Note: Pages that include a Google Calendar feed will not pass official validation due to Google feed code. However, the balance of page information is marked up in an accessible, valid manner.

All pages are written in HTML5 and use CSS for visual layout. If your browsing device doesn't understand stylesheets, the content will still be accessible.

Each page uses semantic markup.

Headers are marked up with <h1>, <h2>, <h3> and <h4> to logically structure the content.

Users of the JAWS screenreader can skip between header tags using:

ALT + INSERT + 1 and ALT + INSERT + 2, etc.

There are no javascript: pseudo-links. Even if scripting is turned off, all links can be followed in any browser and all text is available.

This site uses cascading style sheets (CSS3) for visual layout. If your browser or browsing device does not support stylesheets at all, the content of each page is still readable.

The layout is fluid, meaning percentages have been used for columns and "ems" (relative units) for text size. Text can be re-sized in all browsers including Internet Explorer for Windows (IE6 - IE10).

The University of St Michael’s College website has been developed to ensure content is available to the widest possible audience, including readers using assistive devices or accessibility features.
