Members of the general public who wish to use library resources are welcome to come into the Kelly Library. Anybody can read a book or newspaper or watch a DVD in the library - even if they don't have a library borrowing card.
Finding Library Materials
Staff are very willing to help people use the catalogue to find a book or journal in our collection. A reference librarian is usually available Monday to Friday, 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Computer access is restricted to faculty, staff, and students of the University of Toronto who have a UTORid. Members of the public who need to use one of the library's electronic databases should speak with a staff member.
All photocopiers in the Kelly Library are operated using a UofT library card or visitor's photocopy card. A visitor's photocopy card can be purchased at the Circulation Desk; the plastic card costs $5.00 and has no pre-loaded photocopying value. Photocopies are 10 cents per page.
Borrowing from the Collection
People without a University of Toronto library card can purchase a St Michael's College Library Extramural Reader's card ($40.00 per year; $30.00 per year for SMC alumni). This card entitles the holder to borrow up to ten items (books or DVDs) from the Kelly Library at any one time.
|Books: 2 weeks||DVDs: 1 week||Short Term Loan: 3 hours or 2 days|
The fine for overdue material is $0.50 per day ($0.50 per hour for Short Term Loan materials). The charge for an item which is lost is $145.00.
If not requested by another patron, books may be renewed once in person, by telephone (416) 926-7114 x 3475, or online using the 'My Account' feature. If you have already renewed a book once but still want to use it, please bring the item to the Circulation Desk; if it is not needed by another patron, we will check it out to you again.
DVDs cannot be renewed online or by telephone. If you still want to use a DVD after the one-week loan period, please bring the item to the Circulation Desk; if it is not needed by another patron, we will check it out to you again.
