Convocation November 2006

Dr. Visser, author of The Rituals of Dinner and The Geometry of Love, among other titles, is being honoured for her contributions to the enrichment of culture in Canada and around the world, through her books, lectures, and media commentaries. Mr. Sorbara is being recognized for his accomplishments in post-secondary education governance, as a leader in the Toronto business and philanthropic communities, and as a generous supporter of St. Michael's. Prof. Theall will be honoured for his achievements in a long and distinguished academic career, which includes having served as Professor of English at St. Michael's and later as President of Trent University.

The honorary graduands will receive their degrees alongside theology students receiving degrees from the USMC in conjunction with the Toronto School of Theology and the University of Toronto, and Continuing Education Division students receiving certificates in the Division's certificate programs.

"As Chair of the Senate and as President of St Michael's, I extend congratulations to our three honorary graduands and to all our graduands on this important occasion," said Dr. Richard Alway, President and Vice-Chancellor of the USMC.

Three outstanding individuals to be honored by St Michael's

On the recommendation of the Senate of the University of St Michael's College, the degree Doctor of Sacred Letters, honoris causa, will be conferred on Mr. Joseph Sorbara, Dr. Margaret Visser, and Prof. Donald Theall, at the USMC Convocation exercises at St Basil's Church November 4, 2006.
