TORONTO, July 31, 2008 -- Recent SMC graduate, Jadea Kelly and her band won the Toronto Independent Music Award for "Best Country". Since the age of 16, Jadea has been impressing audiences with her foot-tapping blend of country, folk and rock influences.

Her beautiful voice and minimalist singer/songwriter style is a combination that is being enthusiastically received by both loyal fans and newcomers alike. While at St Mike’s, Jadea was a regular performer at Kelly’s Korner, SMC’s longstanding monthly talent show. Now she is performing at such well known Toronto venues as Lee’s Palace, The Horseshoe, The Rivoli and The Drake. On June 1, Jadea and her band played to a packed house at The Dakota Tavern to kick off the release of her CD, Second Spring.

Accompanying her on stage (and in the studio) were three other SMC students, Erin McGowan on backup vocals, Blaise Alleyne on violin and former SMC don, Greg DiTomoso on bass. Congratulations to Jadea on all her success – we look forward to listening to you for a long time to come.
