Fr. D'Souza has earned degrees from University College, Dublin; the University of Calgary; the University of Toronto; the Faculty of Theology of the University of St Michael’s; and Boston College. His doctorate from the University of Toronto was on Jacques Maritain's philosophy of education. He has been on faculty at St Michael's since 1999, and is the Advanced Degree Director. He is an associate member of the School of Graduate Studies of the University of Toronto and is cross-appointed to the Department of Theory and Policy Studies. He teaches and researches in the area of philosophy, education, and religion. Prior to his appointment at St Michael's, Fr. D'Souza taught at the Faculty of Education in the University of Windsor and was the Academic Dean at St. Joseph's College, in the University of Alberta. He was also President of Assumption University, Windsor, and served as a member of the General Council of the Basilian Fathers.
Fr. D'Souza is a member of the Board of Directors of St Michael’s School. He was the Chair of the Board of Governors of Assumption University, and a member of the Board of Governors and the Senate of the University of Windsor. He serves on the Editorial Board of the journal: Religious Education Journal of Australia, and has been a member of other editorial boards including: Etudes maritainiennes/Maritain Studies and Interchange: A Quarterly Review of Education, as well as referring for a number of other journals. He has published in the areas of philosophy of education, religion and education, Catholic education, and the Catholic university. He is an associate member of the research institute: The Internal Seminar for Religious Education and Values, and was recently appointed as the Representative of the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops to the Churches' Council on Theological Education.

TORONTO, March 26, 2009 -- At its meeting on the 25th of March 2009, The Collegium of the University of St Michael’s, acted on the unanimous recommendation of the Dean's Search Committee which was supported by President Anne Anderson CSJ, to appoint Fr. Mario O. D' Souza CSB, as Dean of the Faculty of Theology effective April 2, 2009. President Anderson has held the position of Dean of Theology since 2000.
