The Dean of Students is responsible for all aspects of the SMC Residence, including the admission of students, the hiring of Dons, and the enforcement of discipline.
Duane Rendle was born and raised in Victoria, BC where he completed a BA in Psychology at the University of Victoria. In 1995, Duane moved to Toronto to do a Master's degree in Industrial Relations& Human Resource Management (MIR-HR) at the University of Toronto. While at UofT, Duane found a home in one of St. Michael's graduate residences and quickly began participating in the life of the College. After serving as a Don for two years, Duane was hired as the Dean of Men & Dean of College in 1998. Whe SMC went co-ed in 2005, his title was changed to Dean of Students. Duane lives in mid-Toronto with his wife Nancy, and their two children, Matthew and Jacqueline. He cultivates a wide range of interest including history, politics, and sports.
The Associate Dean of Students assists the Dean in the day to day management of the Residence and acts in his place whenever he is off campus. The Associate Dean also lives on campus, working closely with Dons, and plays an integral role in student life programming.
Kevin Dancy holds a Bachelor of Architecture degree and a Master of Arts in Philosophy from the University of Toronto. A former Don with many years experience, Kevin joined the Dean's Office in 1996, was appointed Assistant Dean in 1998 and Associate Dean in 2006. Kevin has been an enthusiastic participant in student life at the UofT ever since he first arrived at St Mike's as a freshman. When not studying the works of St Thomas Aquinas, Kevin takes time out to relax and pursue a variety of cultural interests, especially in the visual arts.
The Residence Admissions Assistant is responsible for the day-to-day administration of the St. Mike's Residence Office. Key responsibilities include managing all communications and inquiries; overseeing the admissions procedures, processing withdrawals, room changes and filling vacancies. The RAA provides administrative support to the Dean and Associate Dean, responds to the needs and concerns of current residents, meets with prospective residents and their parents; and liaises with a variety of College and University departments.
Ali Harrison graduated from U of T with a Bachelor of Arts in 2010 and joined the Dean’s Office in late 2011. She comes to SMC with experience at Victoria College, Ryerson University, and the TDSB. Ali was born and raised in downtown Toronto, but has spent much time traveling including a recent stint living in Shanghai, China. Ali loves cooking, reading, and spending time with her three younger siblings.
