About Basic Degree Programs

The Faculty of Theology offers four degree programs: (Master of Divinity (MDiv), Master of Theological Studies (MTS), Master of Religious Education (MRE) and Master of Arts in Catholic Leadership (MACL); and two diploma programs (Diploma in Theological Studies and Diploma in Religious Education) at the basic or professional level. It also offers a Certificate of Specialization in Theology and Ecology.

How to Apply

The completed application form, together with the $25 application fee and the Letter of Intent, must be received by the Student Services Office. as follows:

  • by the last Friday in June for those wishing to begin studies in September.
  • by the last Friday in November for those wishing to begin studies in January.
  • by the last Friday in March for those wishing to begin studies in the Summer A term (April-May).
  • by the last Friday in May for those wishing to begin studies in the Summer B or C terms (July-August).

Letters of recommendation must be submitted directly by those writing the letters. Official transcripts must be submitted directly by the respective educational institutions.

N.B. Applications received after these deadlines cannot be guaranteed consideration.

The Faculty reserves the right to determine whether or not credentials of other degree-granting institutions meet the standards for admission to the Facultys programs. Admission decisions are final and are not appealable.

Non-Degree / Diplomas

Through the Toronto School of Theology federation, duly registered students may take courses at any TST member college. In some instances, they may also follow courses at the University of Toronto toward degrees or diplomas.

Student Responsibility

Responsibility for course selection to fulfill program and degree requirements rests with the student.

All faculty members and the Student Services Officer of the Faculty are available to give advice and guidance.

It is the student's responsibility, however, to read and understand the academic policies and procedures as set out in this Bulletin and the Basic and Advanced Degree Handbooks of the Toronto School of Theology.
