Faculty of Theology Welcome Future Students
Why the Faculty of Theology
The Faculty of Theology reflects the diversity of the Church and Canadian society. We welcome a wide range of theological perspectives and are committed to dialogue and collaboration. Faithful to the Second Vatican Council, we are nourished by approaches emerging from our globalized context, including, ecumenical, liberationist, feminist, ecological and interreligious concerns. In the spirit of our Basilian heritage we are guided by the principles of goodness, discipline, and knowledge.
Our commitment to diversity in terms of gender, ethnicity, race, and culture is reflected in our students, staff and faculty. We strive to create a community of hospitality, equality, collegiality, and justice for all. Our communal life hinges upon the habits of study and worship.
The future of the Faculty is shaped by our discernment of the evolving character and needs of the Church. We strive to be a centre of excellence in theological studies and ministerial leadership for the renewal of the Church and the transformation of the world.
A Community of Faith
During the academic year all are welcome to join us in the weekly celebration of the Eucharist and other forms of communal prayer. We worship in the simple setting of the chapel of the Cardinal Flahiff Basilian Centre which adjoins the Faculty. Our celebrations are followed by an informal social in the Elliott B. Allen Student Common Room. At least once annually we worship in the Eastern Rite of the Catholic Church. The Faculty also encourages students to attend various ecumenical services sponsored by the Toronto School of Theology.
Campus Ministry at St. Michael's College provides spiritual direction and pastoral counselling services. We are a faith community whose mission is to help students, and all who come to us, discover the spirit, joy, and love of God in everyday life.
God in the City
The Faculty of Theology is located in the heart of Toronto, Canada's largest city: a vibrant, cultured, multi-faith and multi-cultural city that provides rich, challenging opportunities for studying theology and serving the world through this study. Toronto is consistently rated as one of the world's most livable cities.
Student Life
Our students come from five continents. A vibrant Student Life Committee and an active Liturgy Committee provide opportunities for them to acquire a better understanding of their own faith and a number of occasions for hands-on experience in community building.
A few of the exciting and challenging events that our Student Life Committee organized for students this academic year include:
- Volunteer Opportunities
- Community Outreach including the Out-of-the-Cold Soup Kitchen
- Winery Tour and Trip to Ottawa
