An Evening with Colm Tóibín: “The Literature of Homecoming”

May 7 @ 6:00 pm

We’re delighted to announce a special evening with Colm Tóibín in Toronto. ‘An Evening with Colm Tóibín: “The Literature of Homecoming”’ will take place on Wednesday, May 7 at 6 p.m.

A graduate of University College Dublin, Tóibín is the author of eleven novels as well as acclaimed works of non-fiction, criticism, and drama. His novel Brooklyn—winner of the Costa Novel Award and later adapted into an Academy Award-nominated film starring Saoirse Ronan—established him as a major international voice in contemporary fiction. His latest novel, Long Island, a New York Times bestseller and Oprah’s Book Club selection, returns to the character of Eilis Lacey and has been widely praised for its emotional depth and precision.

Across works such as The Master, Nora Webster, and The Magician—the latter awarded the Rathbones Folio Prize—Tóibín has explored themes of identity, exile, family, and the inner lives of writers with remarkable clarity and insight. His writing has received numerous international honours, and he currently serves as Professor of the Humanities at Columbia University.

On the evening, Tóibín will deliver a lecture reflecting on his work, his creative process, and the enduring themes that shape his writing.

A reception in the Coop will follow the lecture, with refreshments served. Colm Tóibín will be available to sign books, with a bookseller on site.

Tickets are available here.

This event is hosted by the University of St. Michael’s College. The Craig Dobbin Legacy Programme is an initiative of the Ireland Canada University Foundation, the UCD Dobbin Centre for Canadian Studies, and the UCD College of Arts and Humanities.
