Reporting to the Chief Advancement Officer (CAO), and collaborating with colleagues in the USMC advancement and communications teams, the Advancement Officer, Alumni Engagement will 1) implement a comprehensive alumni events and program plan that has been developed by the Senior Manager, Alumni Programs (2) work closely with communications colleagues to develop and disseminate engaging alumni communications through social media vehicles, publications including the bi-annual alumni magazine, e- newsletter, website profiles and stories, as well as surveys and event and/or program related materials. 3) serve as the resource for and provide support to the Alumni Association Board, Young Alumni Committee and other alumni volunteers.

The Advancement Officer, Alumni Engagement will also be encouraged to explore, in consultation with the CAO and colleagues at USMC and the University of Toronto’s Division of University Advancement (DUA) new approaches and initiatives to increase alumni engagement in and support for St. Michael’s.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

     

    Alumni Relations Programming Implementation and Evaluation

     

     

    • Executes the delivery of a comprehensive and integrated strategic plan for alumni engagement; with a goal of increasing alumni awareness and fostering involvement and long-term engagement in the University

     

    • Evaluates programs and activities, using surveys, benchmarks and other methodologies to assess program outcomes and ensure programs are meeting institutional and alumni needs and interests,

     

    • Considers, invites and implements suggestions for improving the effectiveness of alumni programs and

     

    • Supports the St Michael’s Alumni Association Board of Directors, Young Alumni Committee and other volunteers; provides guidance in the development and delivery of volunteer led/staff supported initiatives,

     

    • Partners with and assists advancement to identify and engages potential new donors through events and programs

     

    • Works with colleagues in Student Life to engage alumni as mentors to enrich the student experience and to serve as advocates to support student recruitment

     

    • Representative for the University of Michael’s College within and beyond the university community, consistently and convincingly demonstrating the role and importance of alumni engagement,

     

    Special Events & Communications

     

    • Ensures quality event and program development, delivery and evaluation

     

    • Plans and oversees delivery – in consultation with communication colleagues – of a multi-faceted alumni communications strategy (through social media, publications e-newsletter ) that incorporate institutional messaging, themes, and priorities in support of alumni engagement and fundraising goals.

     

    Operations

     

    • In consultation with CAO, develops event and program budgets, aiming to obtain maximum value for dollars spent internally and

     

    • Forecasts and tracks expenditures based on the review of current and previous years actual

     

    • Manages multiple projects and their progress concurrently, ensuring timelines are met and staff and resources are fulfilling

     

    QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

     

    • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and
    • Familiarity with the post- secondary education environment
    • Experience in planning and executing alumni programs, events and communications
    • Excellent communication and presentation skills
    • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain positive and productive relationships with volunteers
    • Evidence initiative and excellent follow-through.
    • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and work in a results-oriented environment.
    • Attention to detail, and to planning and prioritizing to achieve goals and meet deadlines.
    • Demonstrated MS Office, database and spread sheet programs
    • Experience with Arbor (Blackbaud CRM) or related
    • Exceptional interpersonal skills, tact and diplomacy, demonstrated ability to exercise judgment particularly concerning confidential
