    POSITION SUMMARY

    Under the general direction of the Director of Student Services & Registrar, and in collaboration with other members of the office, provides academic advising to students registered to St. Michael’s College; takes a lead role in advising on matters related to Academic Integrity; assists in coordinating advising and events specifically targeted to international students registered at St. Michael’s College: performs other duties as required.

    Academic Advising, (65%)
    Provides academic advising by appointment and on a drop in basis to new, continuing and returning students. This includes course selection, programs of studies, degree requirements, transfer credits, petitions and appeals, probation and suspension, preparation for professional and graduate programs, international study, fee payment and refunds, access to student services and co-curricular activities, skills development, explaining faculty and university policies and practices and referral to other university services as required.

    International(10%)
    Assists in identifying and developing international opportunities for the University of St. Michael’s College; this could include undergraduate, graduate and faculty – both in bound and out bound. Particular attention will be directed to undergraduate international student rules and regulations as pertain to students registered in the Faculty of Arts and Science. Responsibilities include programming related to transition to study in Canada and knowledge of processes and offerings associated with the Centre for International Experience.

    Academic Integrity(25%)
    Maintains a thorough knowledge of the Academic Integrity rules, regulations and processes as described by the University and assists and or develops and presents information, in person or via the SMC website and other channels, to students, staff and faculty of the college. Assists in student interaction with the Student Academic Integrity Office.

    Other
    Responds to e-mails; represents the college and the faculty at on-campus and off-campus recruitment events; assists in transition events for new students; assists in ceremonies such as convocation and the awards receptions; helps maintain the accuracy of information posted on the college web site. Assists with duties of Student Services Assistants when required.

    SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS

    • Three to five years working in a related capacity (University of Toronto experience preferred).
    • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and work independently.
    • Ability to work well in a cross-cultural environment.
    • Excellent one-on-one communication.
    • Demonstrated initiative in areas of student services and academic advising, in particular as related to international students.
    • Ability to compose brief, clear and correct text in conventional English.
    • Organized, articulate, conscientious, collaborative and possessing good judgment
    • Reliability and attention to detail are essential as is a service oriented, friendly manner.
    • Ability to learn and apply complex policies and procedures.
    • Working knowledge of ROSI/ACORN, Degree Explorer, Timetable tools, Transfer Explorer and related features is a definite asset
    • Ability to create and edit documents in, but not restricted to Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, Mailchimp
    • Awareness of current equity, diversity and inclusion regulations and practices at the University of St. Michael’s College and the University of Toronto

    EDUCATION

    University degree and 2-5 years related experience within a post-secondary environment.
