    POSITION SUMMARY

    Under the general direction of the Director of Student Services & Registrar, and in collaboration with other members of the Office of the Registrar and Student Services, provides academic advising to students of St. Michael’s College; plans, organizes and participates in the recruiting efforts of the College, and assists in maintaining the web and social media presence of the Office of the Registrar and Student Services; performs other duties as required.

    Academic advising:
    Provides academic and career related/skills development advising by appointment and on a drop in basis to new, continuing and returning students. This includes course selection, programs of studies, degree requirements, transfer credits, petitions and appeals, probation and suspension, preparation for professional and graduate programs, international study, fee payment and refunds, access to student services and co-curricular activities, skills development, explaining faculty and university policies and practices and referral to other university services as required.

    Recruiting:

    Assists the Director of Student Services & Registrar in formulating and executing recruitment strategies for the College; co-ordinates and participates in both on and off campus recruitment outreach (school visits and events) in collaboration with other members of the SMC Admissions and Recruiting team; research, promote, register & schedule upcoming recruiting events, in person or on-line, schedule and attend off‐site school visits; conduct presentations at outreach events and recruitment opportunities.

    Other:
    Responds to e-mails; assists in transition events for new students; assists in ceremonies such as convocation and the awards receptions; helps maintain the accuracy of information posted on the college web site, in particular the Office of the Registrar and Student Services-Future Students web page and the ORSS Recruiting Instagram page. This includes, but is not limited to, the guidance counsellor newsletter, recruitment PowerPoint Presentations, student success stories, print and online advertising/viewbook and social media calendar. Maintains a collaborative relationship with the Communications Office to ensure an ongoing reciprocal exchange of information to achieve continuity of messaging from and/or about the University of St. Michael’s College.

    SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS

    • Three to five years working in a related capacity
    • University of Toronto student advising experience preferred.
    • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and work independently.
    • Knowledge of Canadian and international education systems is required
    • Considerable experience with event planning, one-on-one communications and public speaking is required
    • Ability to work well in a cross-cultural environment.
    • Excellent one-on-one communication. Demonstrated initiative
    • Ability to compose brief, clear and correct text in conventional English
    • Organized, articulate, conscientious, diplomatic; good listener; good judgment; reliability; attention to detail; service oriented with a friendly manner.
    • Willingness to work weekends and evenings on occasion.
    • Ability to learn and apply complex policies and procedures.
    • A valid driver’s license is required
    • Working knowledge of ROSI/ACORN, Degree Explorer, Course Finder, WordPress, Transfer Explorer and related features is a definite asset
    • Ability to create and edit documents in Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point
    • Ability to use a personal computer, photocopier, scanner.

    EDUCATION

    University degree and 3-5 years related experience within a post-secondary environment.
