The University of St. Michael’s College is one of the oldest and most distinctive post-secondary institutions in Ontario and one of three universities federated by the University of Toronto. Founded in 1852 by the Congregation of St. Basil from Annonay, France, the University offers undergraduate students full access to the complete range of courses offered by the University of Toronto, as well as its own unique academic programs. Reporting to the President & Vice-Chancellor, the Director, Office of the President & Secretary to the Collegium will be assisting the President in planning and delegating a wide range of administrative, operational, and strategic responsibilities related to policy development, academic, and fiscal programs. The incumbent will ensure that the office of the President operates efficiently by coordinating multiple incoming priorities of the President through supervision of office staff, moderating the interactions between the President and areas of governance, university management, and maintaining internal/external relationships (i.e., community partnerships, the President’s Advisory Group, students, and faculty). The Director will be in constant communication with members of the Collegium, the Chancellor’s office, administrators of the University, faculty, students, alumni, and external constituents throughout the academic school year. As the Secretary to the Collegium, this position is the lead governance professional at the University and requires an established understanding of university governance in the Canadian post-secondary sector.
The ideal candidate is a dynamic and organized professional with a proven track record of communicating information effectively and efficiently to their leaders and co-workers while simultaneously working alongside a diverse staff and community. Further, this individual will be a critical thinker, who can work independently with minimal supervision. Moreover, for this role, the ideal candidate will require having a general understanding of academic regulations, best practices, and challenges faced by a post-secondary institution. They must also have some experience in evaluating public policy to identify and assess the possible outcomes that stem from each by-law. They will bring a minimum of five years’ experience in a related field. The ideal candidate must understand the importance of relationship-building as all partners are working towards the same end goal. Additionally, this individual will have demonstrated the ability to lead various change management initiatives through internal restructuring, program creation, and project management. Finally, as the Director to the President’s Office, the selected candidate must possess outstanding leadership skills, excellent interpersonal and presentation skills, and most importantly, be able to represent St. Michael’s interests to a wide spectrum of alumni, faculty, staff, students, and collaborative partners to appropriately represent the mission and vision of The University of St. Michael’s College.
