Under the direction of the Principal of St. Michael’s College, the incumbent will provide a range of research resource services for faculty members in the undergraduate division and the Faculty of Theology, and for professional librarians in the Kelly Library. The incumbent will provide technical advice and expertise in relation to research opportunities and the preparation of grant applications. The incumbent will also develop research resources available to members of the College and hold workshops on grant writing.

    POSITION SUMMARY

     

    Under the direction of the Principal of St. Michael’s College, the incumbent will provide a range of research resource services for faculty members in the undergraduate division and the Faculty of Theology, and for professional librarians in the Kelly Library. The incumbent will provide technical advice and expertise in relation to research opportunities and the preparation of grant applications. The incumbent will also develop research resources available to members of the College and hold workshops on grant writing.

     

    SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS

     

    • 2-4 years of demonstrated experience in grant application writing;
    • Ability to effectively communicate, orally and in writing, and to prepare briefs, reports, and correspondence on a wide range of subjects;
    • Proven high level of written and verbal communication skills including the ability to produce comprehensive professional written documents of an outstanding quality;
    • Experience in developing workshops and providing training;
    • Familiarity with the University of St. Michael’s College;
    • Well-developed interpersonal skills;
    • Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities with great attention to detail;
    • Proven ability to work in a team and to establish and maintain strong effective working relationships;
    • Ability to continually seek and capitalize on opportunities to increase excellence in relation to the College’s research objectives;
    • Ability to engage in post-project evaluation;
    • Excellent knowledge of and extensive experience with Microsoft Office.

     

    RESPONSIBILITIES

     

    • Seek out research and funding opportunities for College members prioritizing the following groups of faculty and librarians in this order: 1) Faculty of Theology faculty members, Undergraduate Teaching Stream faculty members, and Professional Librarians; 2) Cross-appointed University of Toronto faculty members with a budgetary link to USMC; 3) Cross-appointed University of Toronto faculty members with no budgetary link. This position does not support College Fellows, but may assist students, mostly graduate, with research grant applications;
    • Advertise and communicate research opportunities internally;
    • Conduct workshops in grant writing for College members;
    • Conduct one-on-one facilitation sessions with College members preparing major grants;
    • Review and edit grant proposals for College Members;
    • Prepare yearly reports on the College’s research activities;
    • Direct and monitor the College’s engagement with the Royal Society of Canada, SSHRC, NSRC, and other grant-issuing agencies and foundations.

     

    EDUCATION

     

    • Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s Degree an asset.
