Borrowing Borrowing The Kelly Library building ground floor is open 9am to 4:30pm Monday to Friday. The second and third floors are closed right now. Some physical items in our circulating collection may be borrowed, however, through our Curbside Pickup service. Loan Periods Books DVDs Short-term Loan Undergraduate Students 2 weeks 2 weeks 3 hours or 2 days Graduate Students 4 weeks 2 weeks 3 hours or 2 days Staff 4 weeks 2 weeks 3 hours or 2 days Faculty 6 weeks 2 weeks 3 hours or 2 days Extramural Readers 2 weeks 2 weeks 3 hours or 2 days Fines & Fees The fine for overdue material is $0.50 per day ($0.50 per hour for Short Term Loan materials). After the initial 2 weeks of the loan period, books which are needed by another patron may be recalled. Recalled material is fined at the rate of $2.00 per day. Unpaid fines of $25.00 result in a loss of borrowing privileges. The charge for an item which is lost is $145.00. There is no charge to obtain a book on interlibrary loan; there is a $5.00 charge to obtain a photocopy of a journal article. Items are picked up at the Kelly Library. Loan Renewals If not requested by another patron, books may be renewed up to three times in person, by telephone (416) 926-7114 x 3475, or online using the ‘My Account’ feature. If you have already renewed a book three times but still want to use it, please bring the item to the Loans and Information Desk; if it is not needed by another patron, we will check it out to you again. DVDs cannot be renewed online or by telephone. If you still want to use a DVD after the two-week loan period, please bring the item to the Loans and Information Desk; if it is not needed by another patron, we will check it out to you again. Loan Holds Placing a hold on a book that is charged out to another patron ensures that it will not be renewed and that it will be made available to you when it is returned. To place a hold contact the owning library in person or by telephone; the name of the author and the title of the book are required. You may also place a hold using the library’s web catalogue using the ‘Request Item’ feature. Holds cannot be placed on books on Short Term Loan. Intercampus and Interlibrary Loans Delivery of items from UTL at Downsview (the library’s storage facility) or from the Mississauga or Scarborough campus libraries is available using the “Request Item” feature in the online catalogue.
