SUMMARY:The Gaelic Soul: an Evening with Donald S. Murray
DESCRIPTION:Donald S. Murray is an award-winning Scottish writer whose historical novels\, poetry\, and non-fiction work addresses the depth of Hebridean culture and the Gaelic soul. He is an Honorary Fellow of the Association for Scottish Literature and in the autumn 2026 will be the Scottish Writing Fellow at the Centre for Irish and Scottish Studies at the University of Otago\, New Zealand. \n\n\n\nHis novel\, As the Women Lay Dreaming explores the ravages of war in the small community of the Isle of Lewis. The tragedy of the subsequent depopulation of Lewis by a government-sponsored immigration to Canada is featured in his novel\, The Salt and the Flame\, and poetry\, Leaving Songs. He wrote and performs in The Metagama: An Atlantic Odyssey\, a stage production which has toured Scotland since 2023\, the 100th anniversary the Metagama. SUMMARY:Hope in Action: Leading Through Chaos
DESCRIPTION:Inclusive Change in Uncertain Times: Exploring how Leaders Guide Organizations Through Strain\, Conflict and Change \n\n\n\nWe are living through a moment marked by constant change\, institutional strain\, and growing polarization. Leaders are being asked to guide organizations through complex transitions while responding to fatigue\, resistance\, and competing demands for fairness and accountability. This conversation steps back from quick fixes to ask a deeper question: how can we lead meaningful change when the conditions for stability\, trust\, and consensus feel increasingly fragile? \n\n\n\nIn conversation with Dr. Shilpa Tiwari\, Program Director for the Diploma in Social Responsibility & Sustainability at USMC CE\, leadership and gender-equity practitioner\, researcher\, and founder of Accelerate Her Future\, Dr. Golnaz Golnaraghi will explore what inclusive change management looks like when systems are under strain and certainty is in short supply\, reflecting on how leaders can respond to disruption without losing sight of equity\, accountability\, and long-term vision. \n\n\n\nThis discussion will consider the human side of change\, focusing on how compassion\, communication\, and attention to lived experience can help organizations move beyond reactive responses toward more thoughtful\, system-level transformation. \n\n\n\nSpeakers:\n\n\n\nDr. Golnaz Golnaraghi\n\n\n\nDr. Golnaz Golnaraghi is leadership scholar\, educator\, and social impact entrepreneur whose work focuses EDI and intersectional gender equity in organizations and the human and social dimensions of responsible leadership . With more than three decades of experience spanning corporate\, higher education\, and social innovation\, she examines how organizations can design systems of work that advance equity\, dignity\, and opportunity. \n\n\n\nShe is the Founder and President of Accelerate Her Future\, an organization advancing the career development and leadership of Indigenous\, Black and racialized women across Canada. Through research\, leadership development\, and partnerships across sectors\, Golnaz works to translate evidence and lived experience into practical strategies that help organizations build more equitable\, inclusive\, and high-performing workplaces\, an increasingly important pillar of social responsibility and ESG leadership. She has led multiple national\, evidence-based research initiatives on career development and male allyship in partnership with funders and organizations\, including the Future Skills Centre and UN Global Compact Network Canada. \n\n\n\nHer scholarship examines diversity discourse\, gender equity\, and intersectionality in organizations\, with particular attention to how power\, privilege\, and dominant narratives shape inclusion and opportunity at work. She has published in peer‑reviewed journals and edited volumes including the International Journal of Cross‑Cultural Management\, and Equality\, Diversity and Inclusion: An International Journal\, and has presented her research at international conferences including the Academy of Management. Her work also includes a longitudinal study examining how Canada’s Best Diversity Employers construct public diversity narratives and the business and moral case for diversity\, equity\, and inclusion on their corporate websites across two periods\, 2013 and 2023. The first phase of this research was published in the Oxford Handbook of Diversity in Organizations (2017)\, and the second phase was presented at the British Academy of Management conference (2025). Golnaz has been recognized as a Globe and Mail Report on Business Changemaker. \n\n\n\nDr. Shilpa Tiwari\n\n\n\nDr. Tiwari is a sustainability and social impact executive with over fifteen years of progressive leadership experience spanning financial services\, extractives\, development\, food systems\, and communications. \n\n\n\nHer work focuses on integrating sustainability strategy\, impact measurement\, and inclusive practices across complex organizations and multi-stakeholder environments. \n\n\n\nMost recently\, she has combined advisory work with social entrepreneurship as the founder of No Women No Spice\, a fair-trade enterprise partnering with women farmers in Tanzania to build climate-resilient value chains. She also designs and delivers practitioner-focused training for mid-career professionals\, boards\, and mission-driven organizations. \n\n\n\nDr. Tiwari holds a PhD in Social Anthropology from the London School of Economics and Political Science\, an MES in Environmental Policy from York University\, and a BSc in Environmental Science from Queen’s University.

SUMMARY:The Contemporary Irish Economy: Exploring the Role of Innovation with Damian Dupuy
DESCRIPTION:There is no doubt that Ireland has achieved remarkable economic growth over the past few decades. While this transformation is often attributed to favorable corporate taxation policies and the strong presence of multinational firms\, little attention is paid to the role of innovation. This presentation explores innovation within the contemporary Irish economy\, with particular attention to the regional ecosystems that support knowledge creation\, entrepreneurship\, and collaboration. Please RSVP.

SUMMARY:Think\, Learn\, Create with AI: the Good\, the Bad\, the Ugly
DESCRIPTION:What does AI mean for the future of knowledge creation and the ways we come to know? And how does it redefine the very processes by which knowledge emerges and evolves? \n\n\n\nIn this Goggio Lecture\, Prof. Paolo Granata will present his new book Generative Knowledge: Think\, Learn\, Create with AI (Wiley 2026)\, where he introduces an original framework that repositions AI as an epistemic partner\, an interface for inquiry and invention that transforms how we understand\, explore\, and produce knowledge. Offering a critical yet optimistic perspective on today’s rapidly evolving knowledge ecosystem\, Generative Knowledge provides both conceptual insight and practical guidance for educators\, students\, researchers\, and professionals engaging with AI in their intellectual work. \n\n\n\nThe lecture will be delivered in English and will feature the launch of the Italian and Spanish editions of the book.

SUMMARY:The Metaphysical Roots of Media Studies: McLuhan\, Maritain\, and Gilson
DESCRIPTION:Marshall McLuhan\, Jacques Maritain\, and Étienne Gilson stand as the intellectual pillars of St. Michael’s College\, defining its global reputation in the 20th century. TV author\, playwright\, and theatre scholar Felice Cappa will be presenting his forthcoming book\, McLuhan in Dialogue with Maritain and Gilson: The Metaphysical Roots of Media Studies (Springer 2026)\, a unique monography of McLuhan’s relationship with Maritain and Gilson on philosophical and theological education. \n\n\n\nMcLuhan’s relationship with the Neo-Thomist philosophers Maritain and Gilson\, which lasted four decades\, from the time of his doctorate in Cambridge\, in the 1930s\, until the end of their lives\, in the 1970s\, is chosen as a field of investigation to explore the paths that allowed McLuhan to start from the classical culture of the Trivium and arrive at the discovery of new disciplinary territories\, from cultural studies to media studies\, of which he is considered the founder. SUMMARY:Slavery and Scotland:  The Case of the Highland Estate of Glenaladale
DESCRIPTION:RESCHEDULED \n\n\n\nStarting in 1772\, large groups of Catholics from the Scottish Highlands began moving across the Atlantic to Prince Edward Island\, Nova Scotia\, and Cape Breton Island. But where did they get the money to make this move? In this talk\, Dr. Karly Kehoe will highlight the complex links between the Highlands of Scotland\, Caribbean enslavement\, and settler colonialism in this contested colonial space. \n\n\n\nKarly Kehoe is Professor of History at Saint Mary’s University in Halifax. Her work focuses on Scottish and Irish migration\, colonial privilege and settler colonialism in the British Atlantic world. She is the co-editor of the Histories of the Scottish Atlantic book series with Edinburgh University Press\, chairperson of the Gorsebrook Research Institute for Atlantic Canada Studies\, and a fellow of the Royal Society of Canada. Her most recent book\, Empire and Emancipation: Scottish and Irish Catholics at the Atlantic Fringe\, was published by the University of Toronto Press in 2022. \n\n\n\nRSVP: Slavery and Scotland:  The Case of the Highland Estate of Glenaladale | Dr. Karly Kehoe – Fill out form

SUMMARY:Hope in Action Speaker Series: Being Human in the Age of Generative AI
DESCRIPTION:Rethinking creativity\, work\, and agency in the age of generative artificial intelligence \n\n\n\nWe are living through a moment where tools like ChatGPT\, Midjourney\, and GitHub Copilot are no longer futuristic curiosities\, they are genuine collaborators in our writing\, coding\, designing\, and decision-making. This talk steps back from the hype to ask a more human question: what happens to creativity\, work\, and personal agency when machines can generate ideas\, images\, and solutions at scale? \n\n\n\nTechnology and privacy lawyer Maleeha Akhtar will explore how these systems blur lines we once took for granted between author and tool\, employee and employer\, automation and autonomy. We’ll consider what it means to create in an age of algorithmic assistance\, how power shifts when data becomes raw material for intelligence\, and how law can protect not just innovation\, but dignity\, fairness\, and meaningful human choice. \n\n\n\nUltimately\, this session is about ensuring that as AI grows more capable\, we remain intentional about the kind of society\, and the kind of human role within it\, we want to build.
