*On various school “rolls of honour” for years 1944-1946 which appeared in CYB “The Thurible”, whereas rank is listed as PO- pilot officer. This NCO (non-commissioned officer) is the only one in VAC/CWGC named “john Whelan” and died KIA May 1943. School registrar records (college/high school) have no “john Whelan” listed. He does appear in “roll of service” CYB 1944 as “Whelan, M John P/O – Air – 35”
