Applying First Year Students (with a Residence Guarantee Only) New Students (without a Residence Guarantee) Returning Residents Step 1Enable your JOIN/UTORid You must enable your JOIN/UTORid found in your acknowledgment letter Step 1 Complete the StarPortal Application Please visit https://starportal.utoronto.ca to fill out an application once you have completed MyRes. Press “obtain/forgot password” and a password will be emailed to you. You are only added to the USMC waitlist once you have filled out the StarPortal Application and submitted it. Step 1 Complete the StarPortal Application Login to the StarPortal application for St. Mike’s and submit an application (beginning January 31st, 2018). Step 2 Confirm your interest in residence on MyRes Confirm your interest on MyRes using your JOIN/UTORid by March 31, 2018 at 11:59pm EST in order to qualify for the Residence Guarantee. (Deadlines for Loretto College may differ slightly. Please consult the MyRes portal application for Loretto College for more information.) Step 2 Accept your Residence Offer If you receive a Residence Offer, be sure to respond and pay your $600 deposit (non-refundable) by credit card on StarPortal by the date indicated in your offer email, or you will automatically forfeit your spot. Step 3 Rank your residence choices on MyRes Once you receive an offer of admission from U of T, you must log into MyRes to rank your residence choices within two (2) weeks of receiving your offer in order to maintain the Residence Guarantee. Step 4 Complete the StarPortal Application You will be emailed with a password to login to the StarPortal application for St. Mike’s once you complete the MyRes rankings. Check the email account that you have registered with ACORN/ROSI for this email. Step 5 Accept your Residence Offer If you receive a Residence Offer, be sure to respond and pay your $600 deposit (non-refundable) by credit card on StarPortal by the date indicated in your offer email, or you will automatically forfeit your spot. Please note that the USMC Residence Office will only communicate with students using their official @mail.utoronto.ca email addresses. Residence Guarantee Residence is guaranteed for all new full-time students entering their first year of university in an undergraduate program for the first time, provided that they have indicated their interest in residence by completing the University’s common residence application (MyRes) by March 31, 2018 at 11:59pm EST, and have received and accepted an offer of admission by June 1, 2018. Students must respond to all deadlines and meet all deadlines and meet all deposit requirements in order to maintain their eligibility. Admission Requirements Residents must be full time U of T undergraduate students. Returning residents are expected to have a CGPA of 2.2 or higher and a satisfactory resident evaluation from their Don. Graduate student applicants are automatically added to the waitlist and will only be considered once all undergraduate applications have been assessed – please apply as a new resident. Admission Priorities Applicants for USMC housing are admitted in three separate groups in this order: First year students with a Residence Guarantee Returning residents (those currently living at USMC Residence) New students(those who have not lived at USMC Residence) The number of rooms remaining after the first two groups have been admitted determines the number of rooms available for the third group. Because the number of applications invariably exceeds the total number of spaces available, many of those who apply may never be contacted. Applications are kept on file on the waitlist in case vacancies arise later in the summer or during the academic year. Admission priority for housing at Loretto College is slightly different. Preference is given to St. Michael’s College undergraduates who are studying in the Arts and Science Faculty. However, students from professional faculties and graduate students are welcome to apply, and returning students are given first priority in allocating rooms. Applying to the Waitlist As vacancies may arise later in the summer or during the actual academic year, we encourage students interested in USMC Residence or Loretto College to apply for a spot on the waitlist for their desired residence. Waitlist applicants will only hear back from USMC Residence or Loretto regarding their application status if you are giving a Residence Offer of Admission. Applicants may be asked to reconfirm their interest in residence every few weeks to ensure that our waitlist is kept up-to-date. Select the Term Session you would like to apply to Select whether you would like to apply for: USMC – Academic Year 2018-19 – application open from January 1, 2018 to November 15, 2018This application should be used for those interested in moving into residence in the Fall 2017 semester for the remainder of the academic year. USMC – Winter Only Term 2018 – application open from October 17, 2018 to February 8, 2019This application should be used for those interested in moving into residence only for the Winter 2019 semester.Students studying on an exchange from another university at the University of Toronto are welcome to apply. LORETTO – Academic Year 2018-19 – application open until November 15, 2018This application should be used for those interested in moving into Loretto in the Fall 2018 semester for the remainder of the academic year. Please note that on February 8, 2018 the waitlist application will close and we will not be accepting any more applicants. Complete the StarPortal Application You are only added to the USMC or Loretto waitlist once you have filled out the StarPortal Application. Room Assignment Double rooms are automatically assigned to all freshmen students. Single rooms are automatically assigned to all upper year undergraduate students. If space permits, a small number of freshmen are assigned single rooms using the following priorities Students who have an accessibility need/medical condition that would make sharing a room an undue hardship. Residents must have the need or medical condition verified by U of T’s Accessibility Services and then make a written petition to the Residence Office; Transfer students who have already completed a year of study at another university; National Scholars who are officially recognized by the University of Toronto for this distinction (see the U of T Admissions and Awards Website for more information); Please keep in mind that while we try our very best to assign everyone to their first or second room preference; it is simply not possible to fulfill all of these requests. We sincerely apologize if you were not assigned to your top choice – but we kindly ask that you do not contact us to request a room switch. We cannot accommodate room switches. Roommate Assignments The USMC Residence Office oversees the roommate assignment process to find you a compatible match using the USMC personal profile: Be honest! The personal profile is strictly confidential and honest answers help to ensure your compatibility with your new roommate. If you know someone you would like as a roommate, indicate this on your application – as long as the person identified agrees, the request will be granted.
