TORONTO (April 2, 2020) — Challenging times call for creative measures. In response to COVID-19, the University of St. Michael’s College launched InsightOut, a blog dedicated to a university perspective on the coronavirus. It has since grown to become a cultural hub, highlighting voices across the St. Michael’s community.
InsightOut is designed to educate, enlighten, and entertain — in other words, to provide all the gifts of a liberal arts education in a virtual format. The first post will appear on the St. Michael’s website (stmikes.utoronto.ca) today, and entries will be updated on Mondays and Thursdays in the near future.
You’ll hear the voices of students, faculty and staff as they ponder the current health crisis, each from a unique perspective. Mediaevalist Dr. Alison More, for example, will write about our current world in relation to the plagues of the Middle Ages, while Theology professor Dr. Michael Attridge will write about the isolation of quarantine after returning home from a research trip to Italy.
At a time when everyone is forced to take a step back, St. Michael’s is reaching out to help you stay in touch and to let you get to know us a bit better. While the times may be unique, the University of St. Michael’s College carries on, with professors continuing to teach, students continuing to study, and staff continuing to work. Our mandate to serve our students and the broader community remains at the heart of all we do.
