Governance and Administration

Though federated with the University of Toronto, the University of St. Michael’s College is a University in its own right according to the USMC Act (2005). As such, St. Michael’s has its own Chancellor, President and Principal, and is governed by two bodies: the Collegium and the Senate.

As provided in the Act, the Collegium governs the affairs of the University and, in the exercise of this statutory responsibility, safeguards the property and funds of the University and ensures that it has the resources to carry out its mission while operating in accordance with the best academic practices and the governing law. The Senate is the principal advisor of the Collegium on all matters of an academic and educational nature in the University.
