Upon request, accessible formats and communication supports shall be provided in a timely manner that takes into account the person’s accessibility needs and in consultation with the person making the request to determine the suitability of what is provided.
EMERGENCY EVACUATION PROCEDURE
Under accessibility laws in the Province of Ontario, employers must work with their employees with disabilities to ensure they have access to individualized workplace emergency response information. The employer also has an obligation to provide public safety information in an accessible format or with communication supports upon request.
If you are a person with a disability, you can discuss your individualized emergency response information with your manager or your human resources representative. USMC encourages students requiring residence accommodations to register with Accessibility Services as soon as possible by following the instructions outlined here.
In the event of a fire or other emergency, individuals requiring assistance to evacuate should:
- Call 911 and the 24-Hour Desk (416-926-2099) or campus safety (416-978-2222) and give your location.
- Provide the dispatcher your location and a callback number
- Always stay where you are unless it is unsafe, the Fire Department will assist you in evacuating
- Call the 24-Hour Desk or campus safety back if there is any change in your situation

As of January 1st 2021, under the AODA, all public sector organizations must ensure their Internet websites and web content adhere to Level AA standard as defined by the World Wide Web Consortium Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0.

Screen Readers
The use of screen readers assists individuals who are blind or have a visual impairment. The following are some popular screen readers:
Zoom in
Many web browsers allow you to zoom in on web pages using simple keyboard controls. The magnifier allows you to focus on specific parts of the screen, enlarging the text and other page elements.
For Windows operating systems, press Ctrl and the + (plus) key to zoom in (Ctrl and the – (minus) key to zoom out).
For Mac operating systems, press Cmd and the + (plus) key to zoom in (Cmd and the – (minus) key to zoom out).
Customize the Mouse Pointer
Changing the speed of which your mouse pointer moves assists those individuals with motor skill impairment. By slowing down the speed of your mouse pointer, navigation or buttons are easier to click on.
