Dark Flame of Poetry: Rare and Early D’Annunzio Editions

November 22, 2023 @ 6:00 pm

Join us for an enchanting evening at the John M. Kelly Library as we unveil an extraordinary collection of rare and early editions of D’Annunzio’s poetic masterpieces. Space is limited.

The John M. Kelly Library at the University of St. Michael’s College is pleased to mount an exhibition celebrating the 160th anniversary of the birth of Gabriele D’Annunzio. Dark Flame of Poetry: Rare and Early Editions will celebrate the works of Gabriele D’Annunzio, an often-misunderstood Italian poet, novelist, dramatist, war hero, ultranationalist, political leader, journalist, and a self-proclaimed superman. Beginning with an overview of the Decadent movement and its impact on Italian literature, this exhibition will highlight rare D’Annunzio’s publications found in the library’s collections to show the diversity of D’Annunzio’s talent and his close collaboration with Symbolist artists and illustrators of his generation.

The exhibition will open on November 22, 2023, with a talk delivered by Professor Luca Somigli, holder of the Emilio Goggio Chair in Italian Studies at the University of Toronto’s Department of Italian Studies at 6pm. A reception and exhibition viewing hosted by the Friends of the Kelly Library will follow.

Don’t miss this unique opportunity to explore theDark Flame of Poetry that burns within D’Annunzio’s words. This in-person event promises to be an unforgettable experience for poetry enthusiasts and literary connoisseurs alike. Reserve your spot today!
