Opening Lecture and Reception for ‘The Big Maps: The Sisters of Service as Canadian Trailblazers’ Exhibition
October 23 @ 6:00 pm
The University of St. Michael’s College invites you to the opening of ‘The Big Maps: The Sisters of Service as Canadian Trailblazers’, a new exhibition at the John M. Kelly Library, curated by Francesca Rousselle.
Join us as Mark McGowan, Professor Emeritus of History and Celtic Studies at the University of Toronto and Principal Emeritus of St. Michael’s College, will explore the pioneering vision of Catherine Donnelly and the vital role of the Sisters of Service in welcoming, housing, and teaching new Canadians.
The John M. Kelly Library is proud to celebrate the recent donation of the Sisters of Service records to its Special Collections: Archives and Rare Books. This exhibition highlights the SOS as a uniquely Canadian, untraditional women’s religious institute, whose century of service spans immigration work, education, nursing, social work, and beyond. The Big Maps embodies the unconventional spirit of these trailblazing women and their lasting contributions to Canadian social, religious, and women’s history.
