Medieval Irish literature is full of female characters, both realistic and otherworldly. Some of these women have little agency, while others are the key drivers of their narratives. However, not all of them speak. This lecture will consider a number of women who do speak, and whose words have significant effects within their narratives, particularly through engaging the emotions and sympathies of their potential audiences.
