FAQ: What you need to know about the CITC Conference.
A: The CITC Conference, which stands for the Canada, Ireland, and Transatlantic Colonialism Conference, is an international gathering of scholars who will be discussing the relationship between Ireland and Canada, particularly with reference to migration, the apparatus of the British Empire, colonialism, religion, and Irish engagement with the Indigenous peoples of Turtle Island.
Admission is free, and sessions are open to the public. Please refer to the Conference Schedule.
The conference is co-sponsored by the Department of Foreign Affairs, Ireland, and the University of St. Michael’s College and its Celtic Studies Program.
A: The Conference is scheduled from May 28 to 30, 2024.
The University of St. Michael’s College is hosting the Conference, which will have sessions in the following locations:

A: Admission to the Conference is free.
However, there is a separate registration form for the Celebratory Dinner, which you can participate in for an additional fee of $67.80 per person (including the HST), plus a cash bar.

A: The Conference will feature six keynote speakers, namely:

– S. Karly Kehoe, St. Mary’s University, Halifax
– Donald H. Akenson, Queen’s University, Kingston
– Christopher Morash, Trinity College Dublin
– Deirdre Raftery, University College Dublin
A: The Conference will feature six sessions spread across three days. The sessions will cover various topics such as Indigenous aid to Irish famine relief, Irish religious mission and colonization, and post-colonial nationalism and memory in Canada and Ireland. Guests can sign up for each day of the Conference.

Registration Questions:
A: You can register by visiting the Conference website and completing the registration form. The form requires you to provide your personal information and select the registration morning and afternoon blocks.
You can also register for the Celebratory Dinner through a separate registration form on the CITC website.
A: Yes, the deadline for Conference registration is May 22.
Celebratory Dinner Questions:
A: No, you must register separately for the Celebratory Dinner. The cost is $67.80 per person (including the HST), plus a cash bar. Please register for the Celebratory Dinner.
A: The Celebratory Dinner is optional, and all are welcome. The ticket cost is $67.80 per person (including the HST), plus a cash bar. Please indicate any food allergies. Dinner registration is required.
Additional Questions:
A: If you have any food allergies or dietary restrictions, please indicate them on the General Registration form.
The organizers will accommodate your needs during the Conference Opening Reception and/or the Celebratory Dinner.
A Yes, the conference organizers may take photographs or videos during the Conference for promotional purposes. If you do not wish to be photographed, please let us know.
A: Unfortunately, the University does not provide parking facilities. However, several paid parking lots and street parking spots are available near the University of St. Michael’s College.
