TRAVEL/CONFERENCE SUPPORT (maximum award to any one individual: $1200 per academic year [July 1 to June 30]) 

  1. Must be full time faculty member, librarian, faculty or librarian Fellow, Fellow Emeritus, retired faculty or Fellow; Priority will first be given to those who are early career (defined as having commenced their first academic appointment within the last ten years) and those seeking tenure and/or promotion; Priority will also be given to those whose appointment is held at USMC and/or those who hold a contractually limited appointment with either USMC or UofT. 
  2. Must be presenting at the conference. Abstract and notice of acceptance to be included with application, or (notice of acceptance) follow as soon as available. Funds will only be released upon confirmation of acceptance, otherwise they will revert back to the funding pool. 
  3. Applicant must acknowledge affiliation with USMC/RSM on the program/conference abstract. 
  4. Priority will be given to applicants with limited access to other sources of funding. 
  5. Preference will be given to applicants who have been the primary applicant for a major grant (SSHRC, Lilly, etc.) within the past three years. 
  6. Preference will be given to applications which benefit the USMC/RSM community.
  7. Typically only one grant per (award) year per applicant to a maximum of $1200 or an amount to be determined for that year based on the total amount of SSHRC Institutional Grant funding (SIG) funding received.
  8. Only actual travel costs (air or ground) plus hotel and subsistence (Cdn. $80/day) are considered. 
  9. Applications must be accompanied by the applicant’s CV in an approved academic format. 
  10. Applications received after a published deadline will not be considered in that round. Deadlines will be posted on the USMC website. 
  11. Incomplete applications will not be considered. A complete application includes the required signature of the principal, dean, director, or chief librarian prior to being submitted to the committee as well as an academic CV. 
  12. Funds must be used solely for the purposes stated in the application, otherwise the funds will revert to the funding pool. 
  13. Successful Applicants must provide a one-page report describing the research activity as well as a one-page financial summary signed by the original signatory of the application within one month of the end of the event.

RESEARCH SUPPORT  (maximum award to any one individual: $2850 per academic year [July 1 to June 30]) 

  1. Must be full time faculty member, librarian, faculty or librarian Fellow, Fellow Emeritus, retired faculty or Fellow; Priority will first be given to those who are early career (defined as having commenced their first academic appointment within the last ten years) and those seeking tenure and/or promotion; Priority will also be given to those whose appointment is held at USMC and/or those who hold a contractually limited appointment with either USMC or UofT. 
  2. Must have been the primary applicant for major research grant (e.g. SSHRC) within the past 3 years.  Preference will be given to those who have been the primary applicant for a major research grant through USMC (e.g. SSHRC) within the past 3 years or are intending to use these funds to support a pilot study for a SSHRC application which will be submitted through USMC. 
  3. Applications must specifically address how their activity will benefit the USMC/RSM community. 
  4. Typically only one grant per award year per applicant to a maximum of $2850 or an amount to be determined for that year based on the total amount of SIG funding received. 
  5. Applications must indicate publication plans for funded research support. 
  6. Eligible expenses include: student research assistant; printing/scanning costs; travel (actual transportation plus subsistence as above). For student research assistants, the committee encourages hiring students who are currently enrolled in a USMC program, preferably through the UofT Work Study Program (Research Experience Stream). 
  7. Applications must be accompanied by applicant’s CV in an approved academic format. 
  8. Applications received after the published deadline will not be considered in that round.

HOSTING OF CONFERENCE OR COLLOQUIUM SUPPORT (maximum award to any one individual: $2850 per academic year [July 1 to June 30])

Must be full time faculty member, librarian, faculty or librarian Fellow, Fellow Emeritus, retired faculty or Fellow; Priority will first be given to those who are early career (defined as having commenced their first academic appointment within the last ten years) and those seeking tenure and/or promotion; Priority will also be given to those whose appointment is held at USMC and/or those who hold a contractually limited appointment with either USMC or UofT.
  2. Applicant must acknowledge affiliation with USMC/RSM on the program/conference abstract. 
  3. Preference will be given to those who have been the primary applicant for major research grant through USMC (e.g. SSHRC) within the past 3 years or are intending to use these funds to support a pilot study for a SSHRC application which will be submitted through USMC.

Funds for these opportunities are drawn from SIG as well as the President’s Research Fund. Funds awarded from SIG must be utilized prior to the end of March in the academic year in which they were awarded, and those from the President’s Fund must be utilized prior to end of April in the academic year in which they were awarded. The RAC committee will do its best to allocate funds in a way that is sensitive to these time constraints.
