The University of St. Michael’s College Continuing Education Division is seeking a dynamic and passionate individual with strong pedagogical skills, a deep understanding of sustainability principles and a commitment to fostering critical, futures and systems thinking, collaboration, and action-oriented learning to serve as Diploma in Social Responsibility and Sustainability.

Reporting to the Manager of Program Development and Delivery, Continuing Education (CE), the Program Director of the Diploma in Social Responsibility and Sustainability (SRS) creates transformational learning experiences for Diploma participants to transition or advance their career in sustainability, social responsibility and ESG. This role requires strong communication, marketing, interpersonal, and project management skills, along with a deep understanding of existing and emerging sustainability principles, frameworks, standards and regulations. Working with diverse audiences, across a spectrum of business, nonprofit and institutional sectors, the Program Director designs, develops, implements, and evaluates sustainability education for professionals in this field.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

    Program Development, Design and Review:

    • Develop and update the SR&S program content to meet the evolving needs of sustainability, ESG and social responsibility leaders as they pursue business resilience for their organizations.
    • Provide input and guidance on program content for the additional CE courses in the area of sustainability and social responsibility.
    • Research, engage widely with knowledge sources, including Alumni, and maintain currency to identify trends for current and future knowledge, skills and attitudes for professionals in sustainability, social responsibility and ESG in of business resilience, risk management and value creation.
    • Conduct ongoing needs assessments, identify learning objectives, assessments and rubrics.
    • Support the Manager of Program Development and Delivery and the various advisory committees regarding continuous program evaluation and implement continuous improvement strategies.
    • Develop content for the Learning Management System for the Diploma Program.
    • Monitor progress and grading to ensure program requirements are fulfilled

    Facilitation, Training and Delivery:

    • Facilitate and lead education sessions online and in person.
    • Coach students, provide network connections, facilitate job opportunities.
    • Provide CE Executive Assistant with required logistics for in-person modules (catering, room bookings, room setup, AV requirements, etc.)

    Recruitment and Admissions:

    • Collaborate with the Executive Assistant and Manager of Program Development and Delivery, on the development of marketing (social media and Constant Contact) strategies, manage and measure success.
    • Review and draft media releases, newsletters and social posts. Collaborate with internal and external resources on the creation of videos, ads and thought papers
    • Respond to questions about program alignment with applicant’s goals
    • Select and on-board Diploma Program candidates who strengthen the cohort, that are best placed to benefit from the program, and that can affect the change the program seeks to catalyze and support CE course registrants.
    • Work with CE Executive Assistant to support candidates in application process

    Instructor and Mentor Recruitment and Supervision:

    • Recruit mentors and ensure appropriate matches occur for students. Host regular check-ins for mentors on course and student progress throughout the duration of the program.
    • Recruit instructors, verify competencies, collaborate to design and deliver lesson plans in line with the program syllabus. Evaluate and provide feedback to instructors for continuous improvement.
    • Resource management: Collaborate with the Manager of Program Development and Delivery in the development of an annual budget, monitor Responsibility Reports, Approve and report on Tuition Tax Credits.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    • Post-secondary Education in the fields of Business, Sustainability, ESG, Responsibility and Education.
    • At least five years of progressive sustainability education experience.

    REQUIRED COMPETENCIES

    • Sound knowledge of issues, emerging trends, policies, and legislation that affect the Sustainability, ESG and Social Responsibility field.
    • Deep understanding of concepts and skills in the sustainability field such as decarbonization, carbon budgeting, risk and resilience, community investment, change management, program management, leadership etc.
    • Strong and current networks in the sustainability field.
    • Superior oral and written communication skills.
    • Familiarity with pedagogical and course-design best practices associated with adult learning including Sustainability Mindset Principles.
    • Demonstrated ability to design and deliver successful courses and programmes.
    • Capacity to work both independently and collaboratively to organize and prioritize in a complex and dynamic setting.
    • Demonstrated track record of student success.
    • Experience developing, managing and reporting on budgets.
    • Effective communication skills and ability to maintain clear information channels with multiple contract staff, learners & colleagues.
    • Strong diplomacy, consensus-building, and collaborative skills to translate ideas from brainstorming to realization.
    • Experience with novel virtual and in-person teaching platforms and technologies (virtual classrooms, dual-delivery, smartboards, etc.)
    • Excellent interpersonal skills with a proven ability to develop networking relationships and Partnerships.
    • Experience with Constant Contact or similar, LinkedIn marketing, and experienced in Microsoft Suite of software.
