Course description: East Asia have been on the cutting edge of many popular media trends in the 21st century, including the rise of media convergence and transmedia storytelling, the K-Pop phenomenon, and innovations in streaming as well as social media. The transnational media flows of East Asian media are also one of the more fascinating examples of hybridity. In this class, we will examine the creation and the flow of popular media across by Japan, Korea, China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan, including, but not limited to films, TV, music, fictions, games, comics and much more.

    Title/position: Teaching Assistant
    Qualifications: MA required. In accordance with the CUPE 3902 Unit 4 Collective Agreement, Article 15.07, preference in hiring will be given to graduate students whose disciplinary study and research specializations align closely with the focus of this course. Strong written and oral communication skills are essential.

    Salary: $46.23 per hour + 4% vacation pay
    Estimated course enrolment: 50 students
    Size of appointment: 25 hours
    Class schedule: Tuesday: 12-2.
    Dates of appointment: September 1, 2023 – December 31, 2023.
