St. Michael’s Congratulates Dean Woodin on Appointment as U of T President

On behalf of the University of St. Michael’s College I offer my heartfelt congratulations to Melanie Woodin, Dean of the Faculty of Arts & Science, on being named the 17th President of the University of Toronto.

Having worked with Dean Woodin since her appointment as dean in 2019 I know she will lead the University of Toronto with wisdom, innovative thinking, and a deep respect for U of T, one of the top universities of the world.

A neuroscientist in the department of cell and systems biology, Dean Woodin is an exceptionally accomplished academic who has a strong grasp of what students and colleagues need in these challenging times. An experienced administrator, she will strengthen key relationships and be a respected voice as she represents the university around the world. Dean Woodin will begin her five-year term as president on July 1.

In turn, this is good news for St. Michael’s, federated with the University of Toronto. Rooted in a mutual commitment to the academic success and well-being of Faculty of Arts & Science students, Dean Woodin was a generous and creative interlocutor in our successful re-negotiation of St. Michael’s Operating Agreement with the University of Toronto last spring. I am confident that, with Dean Woodin serving as president, U of T will continue to flourish and be a world leader in teaching, research, and innovation, supported by its historic partnerships.

Sincerely,

President and Vice-Chancellor,

The University of St. Michael’s College
