The University of St. Michael’s College has a proud and distinguished academic heritage that goes back to its founding in 1852.
St Michael’s has been home to scholars of global renown, including media theorist Marshall McLuhan, mediaeval scholar Étienne Gilson, and philosopher Jacques Maritain.
St. Michael’s carries this scholarly legacy forward in the lively, interdisciplinary undergraduate programs it sponsors in Celtic Studies, Mediaeval Studies, Christianity and Culture, and Book and Media Studies. These programs attract top undergraduate students from across the University of Toronto, from a variety of disciplinary backgrounds.
St. Michael’s also offers graduate degrees and diploma programs through its Faculty of Theology. In 2022, the University of St. Michael’s College Faculty of Theology federated with Regis College to create a single academic entity, called the Regis St. Michael’s Faculty of Theology (RSM), which offers a number of conjoint degree programs.
The Faculty of Theology is home to the Metropolitan Andrey Sheptytsky Institute of Eastern Christian Studies, a research centre devoted to the theology, spirituality, liturgy, history and ecclesial polity of the Eastern Christian Churches, both Orthodox and Catholic.
Since 2023, St Michael’s has been proud to be renewing and expanding its Continuing Education Division under the leadership of Dr Michael Salvatori.
