About

The Victorian homes on Elmsley Place were part of Toronto’s first subdivision but were eventually acquired by St. Mike’s as the College expanded. McCorkell and Sullivan (House 2 and House 96) and Gilson and Maritain (Houses 6 and 8) are both mixed-gendered communities, with single-gendered and mixed-gendered washrooms. In total, the Historic House constituency provides accommodation to roughly 70 students. The Houses are a mix of single and double rooms, so the buildings accommodate both first-year and upper-year students. All the Historic Houses have air conditioning.

Why Each Room in The Historic Houses is Unique

Due to the unique architecture and design of the Victorian homes, every room in the residence varies in size, shape, and layout. No two rooms are alike, as they reflect the individuality of the original homes. This is part of the charm of The Historic Houses, creating a cozy and distinctive environment that many students appreciate for its home-like feel. While we’ve included photos on our website to showcase some of the rooms and highlight the residence’s unique features, please keep in mind that your room’s design and layout may differ significantly from what is shown. However, all rooms share the same basic features, including:

  • Single beds with standard twin mattresses, each measuring 203cm (80″) long by 96cm (38″) wide
  • A desk and chair per resident so that they have their own study space
  • One wardrobe per resident
  • Recycling and garbage bins, as well as blinds/curtains
  • Air conditioning

Note: rooms vary in size and setup
