Office of the Dean of Students
All residence programming, admissions and operations are overseen by the Office of the Dean of Students.


Duane Rendle
Dean of Students

The Dean of Students is a member of SMC’s Senior Management team and is responsible for overseeing the SMC & Loretto Residences, Campus Life programming, Wellness Services and liaising with various departments to ensure the quality of the student life experience is maintained.


Emily VanBerkum-Farahat
Manager of Community Wellness

The Manager of Community Wellness supports holistic wellbeing through one-on-one subclinical care for students. They also design, coordinate, and implement wellness programs, educational outreach, special initiatives, and training for SMC students, staff, and faculty.


Clayon Levy
Assistant Dean, Administration and Operations

The Assistant Dean, Administration and Operations oversees all aspects of the residence admissions process, operation, and administration. The ADAO manages the department’s finance portfolio and a variety of short-term and long-term projects.


Karina Stellato
Assistant Dean, Campus Life

The Assistant Dean, Campus Life oversees all student groups on campus, including St. Michaels College Student Union, SMCSU, SMC Troubadours, and other student organizations. The ADCL also organizes all Orientation Week activities and commuter programming.


Russell Tho
Assistant Dean, Residence Life

The Assistant Dean, Residence Life delivers residence life programming to students, provides guidance and training to the Don Team, responds to crisis situations and disciplinary issues, and provides guidance and support to individual residents.


Abby Eastman
Residence Operations Coordinator

The Residence Operations Coordinator oversees the day-to-day administration of the Residence Office including communicating with prospective students, processing admissions and withdrawals, managing the campus tour program, and responding to student concerns.


Cianna Choo
Campus Life Coordinator

The Campus Life Coordinator supports the ADCL and all student groups on campus, with a special focus on the Mentorship and Commuter Don programs. The CLC also organizes all CCR accreditation for the college.


Residence Dons

The SMC Dons are all upper-year students who live in the dorms and provide guidance and support to the students in their respective ‘houses’.  Dons are responsible for orienting new students to campus, providing resource referrals, creating opportunities for residents to socialize, and ensuring the rules of residence are respected.
